Here is a short, simple video I created to explain how I use Google Reader for my professional life and with my students.

If you’re not familiar with Google Reader, it is a wonderful tool for navigating the immense amount of information on the Internet and for keeping up with your students’ online contributions.

6 Thoughts on “How I Use Google Reader”

  • Nice video on the uses of Google Reader! I hadn't thought about using Diigo RSS feed from my students' account. Great idea.

One other way I use Google Reader is to search the blogs I subscribe to in order to find resources. The Reader has a search tool that allows me to search by folder or by all the folders. When I am looking for lesson planning advice on, say, teaching conics, for example (I am student teacher of high school math), I simply type in "conics" or "ellipse" or "parabola" and get an idea if there are any conversations or resources out there in the blog-o-sphere (that I follow, anyway).

    Generally, it works pretty well.

    Thanks for the post!

  • Hey there, MB!

I just happened upon this (on your main page the "short" video actually appeared short — the top third visible! LOL) and I have to say this is a great summary of Google Reader for folks new to the technology. Not only have you shared how you make Google Reader work for you, but you do so in a very comfortable way. Very nice!

  • Yeah, I know it looks silly. Not sure what else I can do. Maybe add [video] to the title? Thanks for the compliment. I don't know what I'd do without my Google Reader, so I hope others embrace it, too!

  • Thanks Mary Beth. I am going to give this a go. Hopefully, I won't bite off more than I can (e)chew!

  • thank you. i will give it a go as well.

this is excellent modeling Mary Beth. if more teachers did this, made how to videos, and more students, and then we brought them all together… we would have pd and pre-teacher training done.. cake.
